Happy Birthday, Dora!

This week has been a big celebration for Dora. Apparently it is the 10th birthday of the Dora show and Nickelodeon has been having all this fun stuff on television about it along with a new Dora Birthday Celebration movie. And since Dora is HUGE at our house, we had to get in on the celebrating.

So the other day when Audrey saw the demonstration for these cute Dora cupcakes on Nick channel, she asked me if we could do it. I thought it was a great idea and a fun way to spend time with her. They looked cute and fairly easy. That night I printed out the instructions and templates from their website. The next day we went to the grocery store to purchase the necessary ingredients. So far, so good!

Then came time to make them. Audrey had a hard time understanding why we couldn't just open the box and pull out ready made Dora cupcakes. So it took some explaining on my part so she would understand that the activity is for us to make them.

I set up her little station so she could help stir and mix and decorate. I read the directions to her and saw that it indicated this project would take 70 minutes...a little long...but not a biggie.

Well, two and a half (that's right 2 1/2) hours later I finally finished up the batch of those stinkin' Dora cupcakes. Needless to say, my little assistant had lost interest LONG ago and Addison wasn't happy that she was left out of all the fun.

Audrey did decorate the faces. She had fun doing it. Plus, she REALLY enjoyed licking the icing off the spoons. But next time, I think we will stick to something a little easier.

Our Trip to See Dora and her Friends

Corey and I took Audrey and Addison to see "Storytime Live" including Dora in Birmingham the other day. It was FABULOUS!!!! Audrey was attentive through the entire 2 hours of the show. Addison was even mesmerized by it until she fell asleep near the end.

As you can tell in the photo below (I got the one above and the photo below from Nickelodeon's website) the show had Dora, Boots and her Friends, Kilan and her buddies, the Backyardigans (my favorites :)) and Wonder Pets. The entire show was beautiful, the acting fantastic.

Corey took this shot before we went inside. That is the one thing I didn't like about the show, it didn't allow ANY photography at all inside the theater (not even before, during intermission, or after- poo!) If they even THOUGHT you were thinking about taking a picture (even just of your kid) it was "off with your head"! Despite that, we had a wonderful time!

Dora Live

Corey, being the loving father that he is, was watching Dora with Audrey one day and saw the commercial for Dora Live. And what do you know, they were coming to Birmingham. He wanted to take Audrey to see the show, so he called me to give me the info and set the wheels in motion for the purchase of tickets and such.

We were a little concerned that Audrey would be scared of the "big" Dora and other characters, but on June 10 we headed out for our adventure.

She LOVED it!!!!! I don't think she even blinked for the first 30 mintues of the show. It was so fun, bright, and professional. Even Corey and I loved it.

I would've taken pictures myself, but they had the "camera patrol" out in full force and those folks were threatening to take your cameras and cell phones if they even saw it out in the open. A little overboard...yes, I do think so. This was a kids performance!!! Come on. Anyway, since I like my camera, I kept it put away~ thankyouverymuch~!

So, you will have to take my word for it. Audrey was a cutie pie and we all had a terrific time.
